Student Ministry Pastor Blake Belles

Name: Blake Belles

About me: I’m 35 years old. I grew up here in Floyd County. I went to UofL and spent some time in the Army. I currently work full time in management as a cable contractor, I am a personal trainer, and I’m on staff here as the Student Ministry Pastor.

About my family: I have been married to my dream girl, Niki, for 12 years and we have 3 children, ages 8 (Penelope), 5 (Sebastian), and 1 (Mackade). The only pet we have is a skiddish leopard gecko named Leo.

Fun facts

Favorite ice cream flavor: I’ll take two scoops of whatever you got!

Favorite dream vacation destination: Probably somewhere tropical in one of those individual huts on the ocean… Tahiti, Fiji, Bora Bora etc…

Favorite board/card game: I don’t have a favorite. I prefer games I can beat Niki at. (Which is limited)

Favorite movie/TV show: The best movie ever made is Last of the Mohicans, but my personal favorite is Tears of the Sun. (disclaimer: both of these have bad guys doing bad things and soldiers doing soldier things)

Favorite Bible verse: I don’t know about my favorite but this is my “go to“ text because it has salvation, grace, and purpose in 3 verses…

Ephesians 2:8-10, “For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, not of your own doing but the gift of God. Not by works so that no one may boast. For we are God‘s workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works which He prepared in advance for us to do.“

How long have you attended Forward? Me and Niki were here at the start.

How long have you been on staff? I have been on staff since 2013.

In what ways do you serve at Forward? I am the Youth Pastor, I lead the First Impressions team, work closely with the Security Team Leader, I lead the All-In volunteer rally on Sunday mornings and preach once a month during the main service.

Tell us about a time that was especially meaningful for you in your time of ministry at Forward.

There are many students, baptisms, and commitments for Christ so it is hard to pick one. One thing that really fuels my soul is when a former or current student tells me about a Bible study they are a part of, when they post something spiritual, or when they serve in ministry. I can only thank Jesus for that. Shut up. I’m not crying. You‘re crying! Also, when I see a student or any member of the church getting out of their comfort zone to serve Jesus in any capacity, inside or outside the church, I am encouraged.

Why We Give How to Give

Chest Of Joash

The Chest of Joash provides an opportunity to give above and beyond the normal tithe. The money from it goes directly to work needed done on our building.

In 2 Chronicles 24 we find Joash repairing the temple and a chest was set outside of it for people to bring a tithe that was used to pay the workers restoring the temple. Verse 10 says, “And all the princes and all the people rejoiced and brought their tax and dropped it into the chest until they had finished.”

A huge THANK YOU to all of you who have joyfully donated just as the Israelite officials and people did!

With money that has been raised in the Chest of Joash over the past 3 years ($50,089 since January 2017!), we have been able to

  • Build a ramp off of our sidewalk for those with a handicap
  • Dedicate parking spots in our parking lot with Handicap and First Time Visitor signs
  • Seal our roof to repair several leaks
  • Paint the exterior of the building along with the barn wood design and Forward Church signage
  • Build classrooms in our back hallway for Bible studies and other classes to take place
  • Pave and stripe our parking lot
  • Currently working on expanding our worship space to provide room for more people (this was always the plan for this area but especially necessary now under COVID-19 response guidelines)

You can give to the Chest of Joash by clicking the button below and selecting “Chest of Joash” in the drop down menu.
