forKids Ministry Director Shawn Neal

Name: Shawn Neal

About me: I have served as the Children’s Ministry Director at Forward for the past 7  years! I also teach 7th grade English/ Language Arts at Christian Academy of Indiana. I have taught various subjects and grades for the past 19 years.

I enjoy, gardening, hiking, exploring, decorating, writing, learning new things, and chatting with friends, while enjoying a freshly brewed Americano at one of our local, fine coffee shops.

About my family: My husband Tim and I have have been married for 26 years and have four beautiful daughters, Grace, Mary, Anna, and Sarah, and two amazing grandsons, Liam and Lincoln who will both be celebrating their first birthday soon. We are truly enjoying the joy that grandparenting brings!

Fun facts-  I can throw a football pretty well, because Dan Marino taught me how to Spiral, while visiting my family in Miami, FL several years ago.

Favorite ice cream flavor: Pumpkin/cinnamon swirl from Polly’s Freeze.

Favorite dream vacation destination: I would love to visit London and Oxfordshire, England, especially the private back room (The Rabbit Room) of the Eagle and Child Pub on the Oxford campus’s St. Giles Street where JRR Tolkien and C.S. Lewis developed their friendship, while chatting over the musings of The Hobbit and Narnia. (Can you tell I am a book nerd!)

I would also love to one day visit the Holy Lands, while simultaneously doing a Beth Moore’s “Jesus the One and Only” Bible study.

Favorite movie/TV show: The Princess Bride

Favorite Bible verse:
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.” Psalm 19:14.

How long have you attended Forward? Our family has attended Forward since it began 8 years ago.

Tell us about a time that was especially meaningful for you in your time of service: All of our outreach events have a special place in my heart, especially making relationships with the kids at VBS in the Park. Why We Give How to Give

Chest Of Joash

The Chest of Joash provides an opportunity to give above and beyond the normal tithe. The money from it goes directly to work needed done on our building.

In 2 Chronicles 24 we find Joash repairing the temple and a chest was set outside of it for people to bring a tithe that was used to pay the workers restoring the temple. Verse 10 says, “And all the princes and all the people rejoiced and brought their tax and dropped it into the chest until they had finished.”

A huge THANK YOU to all of you who have joyfully donated just as the Israelite officials and people did!

With money that has been raised in the Chest of Joash over the past 3 years ($50,089 since January 2017!), we have been able to

  • Build a ramp off of our sidewalk for those with a handicap
  • Dedicate parking spots in our parking lot with Handicap and First Time Visitor signs
  • Seal our roof to repair several leaks
  • Paint the exterior of the building along with the barn wood design and Forward Church signage
  • Build classrooms in our back hallway for Bible studies and other classes to take place
  • Pave and stripe our parking lot
  • Currently working on expanding our worship space to provide room for more people (this was always the plan for this area but especially necessary now under COVID-19 response guidelines)

You can give to the Chest of Joash by clicking the button below and selecting “Chest of Joash” in the drop down menu.
